Set at the turn of the century, “Another Period” follows the misadventures of the Bellacourts, Newport, RI’s first family, who have absolutely nothing to offer to the world, but who have so much money it doesn’t matter. Abandoned by Cornetta and Abortion Deb, Hortense reluctantly asks Lillian and Beatrice to assist her in a meteorological experiment which she hopes and suspects will garner her some scientific fame. It's not the possibility of fame that make both Lillian and Beatrice agree to help Hortense, but something associated with the experiment that would fulfill the one matching item on both their bucket lists. That one item has the potential to tear all three sisters apart. Something with the experiment doesn't go quite according to plan, that unexpected turn which requires the sisters to ask for further help in the form of Hamish, whose assistance has the further potential to make matters even more complicated. Meanwhile, Dodo searches for something to replace morphine in her life, it which she is no longer injecting. That replacement, the association to which is the replacement "high", is to take a one day inner harbor voyage on the "high" sea, she taking Peepers along to attend to any menial tasks. Much like the meteorological experiment, the voyage doesn't go quite according to plan. Dodo ends up making a request in the face of death which has the potential to change the face of Bellacourt Manor forever.

Not only are Lillian and Beatrice not invited to the ball, but they receive official non-invitations explicitly stating that they are not invited. Regardless, they are determined to crash the ball. They each take a different path to entry, separating themselves from each other once in. They both make a connection at the ball, Lillian's which has the potential to derail Celery's goal, and Beatrice's which looks to replace the love she no longer feels for Frederick. Meanwhile, Garfield is finding that he is ill-equipped to replace Peepers as head butler at Bellacourt Manor. Regardless, he feels it's his duty and right. In doing his job, as badly as he is, he is unaware that someone else is trying to steal the job right in front of him.

Lillian's wants become a problem for her as Chevrolet is already all booked up. She takes decisive steps to be among the exception to the rule to make it into Chevrolet. Meanwhile, Albert tries to talk a reluctant Victor into procreating with a woman so that they can have a baby to save their crumbling relationship. Their measures to test the waters to see if they would be the parents they want to be may lead to Blanche having a nervous breakdown. And Celery makes arrangements for a reluctant Frederick to take the next step into becoming President. Celery's plan doesn't quite come off the way she wants, however the end result may surprise her.

Now that Beatrice has achieved some fame, Dodo comes up with the next idea which will make Beatrice become even more famous. That idea requires Beatrice to look as beautiful as possible. In Beatrice's makeover, which causes her some physical discomfort, is there a point of going overboard? Beatrice's fame has led to thoughts with Lillian of suicide. She receives what she believes is a sign to make her reconsider that decision. That sign takes her to Lucky Chang's, an illegal Chinese gambling parlor. Her activities at Chang's will make her look at life and money in a whole new light. And Frederick is happily receiving bribes in turn for political favors in his bid to become President. Aside from the bribes, he still has time, or at least thoughts, of self-pleasure to what most red-blooded Newport heterosexual men are using.

Hortense, who knows full well who each mystery person is, decides to have some fun of her own to help her twin siblings find their true love. And it's Family Day among the servants. Being an orphan, Garfield feels left out. So he decides that he will try and discover his biological parents' identity. The Commodore has returned to Bellacourt Manor purportedly on his last legs, the manor where he wants to die. Dodo grants him his request. However, the Commodore, alive and well, has really come back to win Dodo and regain his place in the manor. However he realizes that after forty years of marriage to her, he knows nothing about her in order to win her back. He secretly tries to pry such intimate information from the person who arguably knows her the best, namely Peepers. But Peepers, still in love with the matron of the manor, may have his own thoughts about what the Commodore is trying to do. Meanwhile, Lillian, still in the sanitarium, believes that she can prey on Blanche's seemingly ambitious nature to operate a drug ring, smuggling the drugs out of the institution onto the black market. In the process, Lillian will discover just how ambitious Blanche really is. And Hortense just can't wait for the climax of her plan, when Beatrice and Frederick discover that they are each other's beloved. Hortense's plan takes a twist she didn't envision, even though what happens is typical of Beatrice and Frederick.

Now that Frederick is focusing on his career, Beatrice, who wants to tell him that she is his beloved and he is hers, has to figure out what to do with her life instead of being with Frederick, it a life where no one loves her. She turns to the one person no one loves for advice. And Officer O'Kelly continues to convince an amnesiac Lillian that she is his wife, Garbagella, however much she feels that doing wifely chores is not in her DNA.
